While every liberal talking-head in the universe is asking, or even postulating, that global warming/climate change is making the tragic wildfires in California worse and worse, we have two questions:
1) Do you think logging restrictions that have vastly increased the density of trees on the West Coast make fires more or less potent?
2) When we prevent the destruction of a natural habitat by disallowing the clearing of underbrush in Californian communities, does that natural kindling make fires more or less likely?

It seems so simple to change the background of a toy soldier, but not when its “the” toy soldier. The Left of this country has really made their opinion of the US military obvious this time.

To anyone who stumbles over this page,
Welcome to Sword and Sextant, a crusade to navigate through and fight off the elements of our government that threaten our future and the policies that remind us of the Soviet Union our fathers and grandfathers fought to destroy. We will examine the spectre of new taxes, the threat of foreign wars, the relative unimportance of social issues, and the essence of political correctness. We will try to represent the conservative movement when possible, but there are many false prophets who claim membership, but skew the tenets of the cause, rather than represent them.
Enjoy your stay, and watch your step. Protecting our freedom has never been easy.

Our country is under attack once more by socialism and the Nanny-state mentality. Our democratic candidates for President are charging hard for national healthcare, Senator Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is calling for the largest tax increase in history, and the latest craze is global warming, a knee-jerk media blitz that will require untold billions and new government (and international) controls to ensure our safety in the face of a peril that has not yet been proven to exist. It seems that our country is headed for a big increase in national government and taxation, and there is little we can do about it. The Left has played the class warfare card brilliantly.
It is only human to envy and even distrust those who make substantially more than us each year. They drive cars we don’t have, live in homes we can’t fathom, and send their children to college with pocket change. It takes little more than instinct to feel this way, but it takes a rational outlook to realize that the rich and very rich are successful because they deserve it. They work the long hours, have the great ideas, and the talents to bring people together to make money, not to mention the personal risk they assume to follow their dreams. Not only that, but the best executives and business owners make money hand over fist for their employees, as well. They exist for the benefit of all men, though many can only see the new cars and swimming pools.
The culture of class envy the democrats are creating is nothing new, but, combined with a drastically more socialist leftist bent, our economy and country are in danger. Massive tax increases are on the horizon. They will be necessary to replace our world-best health care system with the leviathan of socialized medicine.
Socialized health care. Socialized. Just think, the very plan Hillary got laughed off the camera for in 1993, she is now garnering great support for. How far the left has departed from reason! They openly embrace socialism, and entitlement programs for the very votes they have purchased for years.
I heard a man say he was for “free health care” last week. I asked him what he meant by free, and he stammered for a moment before bringing up the “failed war in Iraq” and some garbled anger/ignorance about President Bush. It was a very accurate picture of the American Left these days: an angry, yet misinformed fellow who probably meant well, but who will steer us unerringly towards communism under the all-powerful federal government.
When so many are so uneducated, yet so determined to install their leader, we have a very difficult problem to tackle. Democrat voters do not realize that they will pay much more in taxes than the money they garner from socialized health care, or that pulling out of Iraq at any point will open the region to new threats against Israel and our own country (we still haven’t pulled out of Germany or Japan). Our best hope lies in Hillary Clinton, I fear.
Only Clinton’s polarizing image that wrongs men as “America’s Ex-Wife/Girlfriend” and women as both “The woman who agreed to be cheated-on for power” and “The angry feminist” can drive enough of America to overcome the hangover that Bush hath wrought, for better or worse (a little of each). Only her distinct hateability can help us, unless the Pelosi/Reid machine keeps churning out the rancid sludge its producing 24/7. Let us not forget who the only people with a lower approval rating than Bush are.
With Hillary all but nominated, we will play russian roulette with our future. Win, and we may sweep back into the majority in all three phases of government. Lose, and we may find ourselves putting on nationally recognized work uniforms, getting in our electric cars, driving to our approved careers, and returning to our chosen spouses before the blackouts begin to encourage a “healthy” bedtime. Maybe we’re just competitive, but we at Sword and Sextant would like to win this one.
