Obama can win 2012 re-election right now.
I admit flat out: I love Rush Limbaugh. He’s the only conservative that plays the media like a fiddle these days, and one of the better natural, instinctual conservatives in the world at the moment. He doesn’t need literary references to tell you why something is conservative. The man’s intellect is already shaped in that fashion, and his ability to deliver his opinions full force each day is why he is loved/hated everywhere. Charisma does that for people, and Rush has it in spades.
Now that we’re past the disclaimer, Rush has a pretty nice idea here, and its even getting play at a bunch of media outlets that I normally would not expect.
Split the proceeds of the stimulus according to party vote, and find out once and for all what leads to more jobs. Is Lord Keynes or Hayek in the right? I have my bias already, but following the money and seeing what happens could actually remove politics from government for a bit, something I think we can all smile about.
This is also a big opportunity for Obama to really put a huge stamp on his post-partisan rhetoric. Barack, this is your moment, should you choose to live up to your lofty speeches. It would nearly guarantee reelection, no matter what happens for the next 3 years. Teaming up with Rush to save the country without partisan in-fighting? Holy crap, that would impress the crap out of even the hardest-hearted conservative pragmatics. It would also free him to do whatever he wanted right after that, regardless of political stripe.
I have huge problems with two things in the current Jobs Bailout (my new word for it).
1) Most of it is just a pork bill for Democrat talking points. Contraception, Arts, Amtrak, STD prevention, Medicaid, and welfare to name a few. Not a whole lot of jobs in that morass.
2) Obama talks bipartisanship, but then drops all facades when turning down Republicans in meetings, and he hasn’t tried to force the Dems to meet with GOPers even once. Its just not very honest. He’s in a strong position to force cooperation at the moment, but nothing has happened on that front yet.
The Obama-Limbaugh Plan could really be something interesting if given a chance. It would be the first shot across the bow that Obama really is something different than we’ve ever seen before in American politics. Color me doubtful, but hopeful.
Iran wants an apology.
I’m guessing that Obama will walk over hot coals to meet with Mini-Dictator over there.
This includes apologizing for “crimes” and our bad attitude about letting a 3rd world unstable anti-Jewish dictatorship get nuclear weapons they have promised to use on another law-abiding country on several occasions.
I’m having this image in my imagination that Obama shows up to talk, but pulls a pistol out and shoots Mahmoud (sp?) on the spot before cutting Khameni’s head off with a broadsword. That would score some serious points with me.
In all reality, this may define the weakening or strengthening of American policy and Israeli safety during the President’s term. We have already seen waffling on the missile defense in the Czech Republic and Poland, so I’m not so confident. Please don’t get millions of Jews, and eventually us killed by despicable people, Mr. President.
Obama doesn’t want people to listen to Rush.
As if on cue, the bipartisan gloves are off immediately after the election. Now our President is urging republicans that they shouldn’t listen to Rush Limbaugh if they want to get things done in Congress.
It sure sounds like he’s pleading with a ruefully divisive minority to try and throw a real consensus together, but only if you aren’t paying any attention. In reality, Obama wants to get everyone to agree, but refuses to give up any semblance of his burgeoning stimulus plan, which now famously contains a mob museum and contraception, of all things.
Its an interesting battle between his ego and the reality that republicans, even the fake ass ones in the Guvamint right now, don’t like nationalization, huge spending, rising taxes and an overthrow of an even polical playing field. He personally needs to be the healer, but he also knows that he’s the correct opinion, and won’t budge (as evidenced by his “I won.” moment).
He wants righties to give up the Rush because he wants righties to become lefties. This really has little to do with Rush, other than the political tactic of giving the boogeyman a face. Mr. Alinsky, your table is ready.
So, I’ve stayed away from the whole “why is our President trying to control what we watch/hear” thing, and how it is leading unerringly for the fairness doctrine, but lets visit it for the moment. Are even the more liberal people out there not a bit worried that the leader of this nation may seek to remove opinions he doesn’t agree with from the airwaves, or is it all cool because you happen to agree? Isn’t dissent the highest form of patriotism?
Thought I had heard that everywhere during the last 8 years…
President Obama
Congratulations to President Obama.
I hope the country succeeds with you, or in spite of you. Also, I’m hopeful that we can move on from the racial aspect of this Presidency. As it always has been for me, this has never been about race, and President Obama will not be governing with his skin color. He is an American, and that is his race, as far as I’m concerned. I am hopeful that he can instill religion into the national consciousness once again, but I doubt anyone can do that.
With that said, Godspeed, and please turn down the hype machine a little. All the Messianic platitudes are driving me more insane than I already am.
Hugo Chavez:Intoxicating::Oliver Stone:Sane Person
So, Oliver Stone has found a great man in Hugo Chavez where so many others have failed. Apparently, Mr. Chavez will be playing the role of Castro for the next 50 years, unless we get lucky and he dies sooner than that.
For a man that continually speaks out against the country he enjoys quite a bit of freedom in (let’s just say he wouldn’t be alive long to deride Chavez and laud the US if he lived in Venezuela), all it takes is a little brutal dictatorial murder and communism to get him all greased up. Who knew?
Personally, I love it when rogue nations throw their oil weight around in an attempt to bully the US into something they haven’t mentioned yet. Especially when they sign on with the heart of darkness over in Iran, and invite war games with the Soviet-Un…. Russia. Why does that sound so familiar? Oh yeah, Cuba. I guess the sequel fetish in Hollywood hasn’t quite died out yet.
Is it so hard to notice that he is a huge sponsor of FARC, an international terror outfit? He doesn’t even hide his resentment for this country, claiming to smell sulfur when standing where Bush did days earlier. I assume liberals want to believe that Chavez only detests the soon to be former President, but these are the same people who think terrorism is cancelled because Obama got elected.
Thing is, we stand between him and ultimate power in the region for as long as he lives. Like all dictators, he will not stop until he dies. The only thing he wants is power, and don’t think for a moment he wouldn’t pull the trigger on any of you if you were in his way. The alternative is damning an entire people to the same squalid existence as Cubans for 50 years. Please, no.
Why does Israel need to stand down?
So, Israel is in Gaza, kicking the crap out of Hamas. Problem is, the media and the World hates it. Wait, that’s not a problem.
Israel, in a moment of diplomatic gold, issued a statement saying that they wouldn’t be asking permission from the UN to defend their own borders from incessant rocket attacks. Thank God that at least Israel sees that they are being attacked by a continual terrorist organization whose number one goal is to eliminate Israel.
But, but, but, they have schools and hospitals! Yes they do, and they also have bombs and RPGs, not to mention the schools merely brainwash children into the bloodthirsty animals that teach them.
So, let me get back on point. Why are the Palestinians allowed to play victim? Why is Israel, the country who has been bombarded for decades, the imperialist evil empire? Seems to me, every time the Palestinians pick a leader, its a horrible terrorist outfit. (Remember, if Hamas falls, Fatah, just as bad, takes its place in two seconds).
I look at it pretty simply. If the Arabs left the Israelis alone, Israel would happily settle down. The Israelis repeatedly (foolishly) agree to stop bombing the Palestinians, yet rockets continue to mar the skies over Zion. One side has proven, through writings, crazy speeches, and deeds that they aren’t interested in anything but murder, and the other wants so badly to be left alone, they fall for the trap every few years, get pissed off, and cut the head off the dragon.
There are peoples in this world who deserve their own homeland. Zimbabweans that don’t work for Mugabe, the Kurds, lots of people in Darfur (Where are they in the news? Is that over? I seriously don’t know. All the actors have better stuff to do now, I guess.), and the Jews.
The Palestinians have been repeatedly offered land, and its never enough. But we already should have known that. Their central tenets include erasing the Jewish state from the world. How anyone can look at their history and feel remorse FOR them is beyond me.
I hope Israel continues to defend itself. Its the most important right any sovereign nation possesses.
Is everything under the Sun political?
Why did the woman playing the President in the new season of 24 and The Garofalo feel it necessary to talk about their feelings on toture before the new season premiered? The Garofalo actually spoke of her reticence about the role because the producer of the show is a “right-winger”.
Is this necessary to say, or can we live just one moment of our lives without bringing up politics? I realize the political nature of THIS blog, but its a blog. I still watch television, go to concerts, drink beer, etc. without it turning into a ragefest against liberals. Its really hard, however, when a professor feels it necessary to disparage my beliefs to get class started off on the wrong foot, or SNL continues in their breathless quest to destroy Sarah Palin because she’s… I still can’t figure that out, actually. I just don’t hate people because of their accent, gender, or level of success. For that same reason, I’d like to have a beer with Obama. I really doubt we’d talk politics at all.
I may ask him to cure me of leprosy, however. (I don’t really have leprosy. Its a test!)
Let it go, Dems
Democrats in the House now want to subpoena Bush, Cheney, et al. with a federal investigation to find out if they broke any laws in the name of national security, according to an AP story today. Isn’t it time to put all the hatred away now that your guy is in there? This is not only childish and vengeful behavior directed at a man that legitimately was doing what he thought was right to protect this country, but its so public that it will damage your chances at the next election. If the public sees you diving into this rabbithole with all your new power, you will rightly be perceived as running only on Not-Bush, which has no shelf life past inauguration day.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from the urge to throw a man in jail because he disagrees with you about the War in Iraq and terrorism.
Chump edit: That behavior would also hardly reflect the healer/uniter rhetoric we heard so often from Barack Obama, should he sign off on it.
